Enquire about our assessment service

A diagnostic assessment is a comprehensive process that explores a mental health diagnosis by gathering information about the individual’s mental capabilities, cognitive strengths, and behaviours.

As each assessment is uniquely tailored to the individual’s needs, we encourage you to call us to discuss the specific assessments and timeframes. A referral for assessment is not required. However, we prefer to work closely with other medical and allied health professionals to uncover areas of developmental difficulty.

We can also conduct assessments for individuals who require a confirmation of their diagnosis (e.g., descriptor or level).

Our psychologists and clinicians have experience working with children and adolescents who require a comprehensive assessment to investigate for neurodevelopment disorders (e.g. ASD, ADHD) or other disorders. It is recommended that a paediatrician or psychiatrist formalise children’s diagnoses, for which a comprehensive report will be provided to assist with a formal diagnosis.

The assessment typically includes:

  • Initial Intake Consultation (1.5 hours) – completed with parents/caregivers and adolescent.
  • Screening Tests – completed in the intake consultation session or prior.
  • Diagnostic Assessments*
    • Can be completed in one sitting or over a period of time.
    • Additional follow-up tests may be required and will be discussed with client and/or caregivers.
    • The duration of the assessment will vary based on the number of diagnoses requested. Each assessment (e.g., WAIS-IV) can take a minimum of 60 minutes.
    • Observations at home or school may be necessary.
  • Optional: Feedback Session (1 hour) – with parents/caregivers and adolescent
  • Comprehensive Report
    • Includes results and recommendations – approximately 4-6 weeks after the last assessment is completed.

*Examples of assessment include cognitive, functional behavioural, learning (educational) difficulties and development assessments.

Our experienced psychologists and clinicians provide support to adults with a wide range of concerns. If you are unsure whether you need an assessment or to see a psychologist for therapy, your assessing psychologist will discuss your specific needs and provide you with information about the assessment or treatment plan that is best suited for you.

The assessment typically includes:

  • Initial intake consultation (1.5 hours)
  • Screening Tests (completed in the intake consultation session or prior).

We assist with the diagnosis of various disorders

We conduct diagnostic assessments for almost all DSM-V-TR diagnoses, these include:

  • Bipolar, depressive, and anxiety disorders
  • Conduct and oppositional defiant disorder
  • Dissociative disorders
  • Feeding and eating disorders
  • Neurocognitive disorders (e.g., dementia)
  • Neurodevelopmental disorders (e.g., intellectual disability, ASD, ADHD)
  • Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
  • Schizophrenia spectrum and other psychotic disorders
  • Substance-related and addictive disorders

The assessment can indicate areas of strengths and weaknesses and can assist with receiving a more person-centred treatment plan. While some individuals require significant support to manage their daily lives, others may need less. With proper treatment, including both behavioural and medical interventions, the symptoms associated with these disorders can improve an individual’s well-being.
